The Kanza Nominating Committee has recommended Jacob Holcomb to represent the Southern District in the Special Election taking place at the Kanza Annual Meeting on April 13 at the Pratt Municipal Building. The election is to fill the open seat with a term expiring in 2025.
Voting members can vote-by-mail (ballots have been mailed) or in person at the event. Below is information about the candidate.
Jacob Holcomb farms dryland wheat, soybeans, corn and milo with cover crops with his family near St. Leo and Iuka in Kingman and Pratt counties. He also has a herd of red angus pairs and has recently added irrigated corn, soybean and alfalfa acres. Jacob returned to the farm in 2013 and took over management from his father Chuck in 2017. He is working to transition to more no-till and has experimented with cover crops and integrating livestock on those crop acres as part of that transition. Jacob is a 2008 graduate of Cunningham High School. He attended Pratt Community College, and received an associate’s degree in diesel technology from Garden City Community College before transferring to Ft. Hays State and earned a degree in agribusiness. He and his wife Samantha welcomed their daughter Riley in Spring of 2021.
